Dok Alternatibo Surallah branch located at Door #2 Villanueva building, Surallah South Cotabato, successfully conducted its 1st Natural Farming Seminar on January 20, 2013. Sir Nestor Buena Agua, Natural Farming In-charge of Dok Alternatibo, was the speaker. Registration of participants started at 8:00 am. Registration fee was 1,000 with free book and CD copy of natural farming guide. Program proper started at 9:00 am with the invocation lead by Francis John Dela Cruz followed by the national anthem. Dok Ruper Sujede, DMNH of Surallah branch welcomed and acknowledged the presence of the participants and introduced the speaker.

From his introduction, Sir Nestor Buena Agua told the participants that in order to understand the concept of natural farming there is one thing that they need to changed, their “mind set”. He shared that the principle of natural farming was simply a combination of 5 senses + common sense because you can use your senses to observe and it is your common sense to apply what you have observed. He discussed the farming system in the Philippines, the conventional farming, organic and natural farming.  Dok Alternatibo promotes natural way of farming because of its advocacy. Sir Nestor gave the importance of natural farming.

He said that in natural farming system we don’t have to buy anything from the outside to be used as natural pesticides and fertilizers. While giving his lectures, he also showed the actual formulation of natural homemade fertilizers and insecticides using materials that can be seen in your own backyard or farm like plants, fruits, kitchen waste and animal waste. He was able to demonstrate the formulation of Indigenous Micro-Organism (IMO), Fermented Fruit Juice (FFJ), Fermented Plant Juice (FPJ), Oriental Herbal Nutrient (OHN), Fish Amino Acid (FAA), Lactic Acid Bacteria Serum (LABS), Calcium and calcium phosphate.

He also demonstrated how to make natural attractant for flying insects and for seed treatment. The participants actively participated during the lecture. They raised questions regarding the topics and also shared their knowledge about natural farming from other seminars they have attended. The participants excitedly observed when Sir Nestor demonstrated on how to make natural feeds using the products that he previously formulated and other indigenous materials.

The said clinic served to the participants’ tinolang native chicken with organic brown rice for lunch and coconut juice and salad for their merienda.

Edwin Fetalino 31 yrs old owner of JaneRyan Veterinary products, said that “malaking tulong talaga na nag attend ako ng seminar kasi nalaman ko ang pamamaraan ng natural farming at kung paano mag alaga ng hayop na hindi ma gastos ang pagpapakain dahil pwede rin pala gumawa ng natural na feeds.”

Nelson Hermusora of Brgy. Centrala, Surallah South Cotabato ex- OFW said that “proud ako na naka attend ng seminar dahil marami talaga akong natutunan sa itinuro ni Sir Nestor, hindi na ako maka balik sa abroad kaya mag farming nalang ako dito sa ating bansa.”

Editha Cemino, farmer from Sto. Niño, South Cotabato engaged in rice and vegetable farming said that “masaya ako na natuloy ang natural farming seminar ng Dok Alternatibo kasi matagal ko ng gusto malaman ang paraan ng Natural Farming. Madali lng pala ang pag aalaga ng mga halaman at mga hayop kung sundin mo lang ang paraan at hindi ma gastos kasi nasa paligid lng mga kailangan mong gamitin.”

The seminar ended with the picture taking of the participants, clinic staff and the speaker.
